ADHD Assessments: Common Questions

IS THIS THE SAME AS PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING OR NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING?
No. Our ADHD screening assessments are not full psychological or neuropsychological evaluations completed by a psychologist. Instead, this process is a comprehensive clinical screening completed by a licensed mental health professional to better understand ADHD symptoms, provide diagnostic impressions when appropriate, and offer recommendations and next steps.

Depending on age and presenting concerns, screening tools may include:

  • Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS)
  • Wender Utah Rating Scale (WURS)
  • Weiss Functional Impairment Rating Scale (WFIRS)
  • WFIRS-S
  • SNAP-IV
  • Vanderbilt Assessment Scales
  • SCARED
  • PHQ-9
  • GAD-7

These tools help provide additional insight into attention, executive functioning, anxiety, mood, and emotional regulation concerns.

Sometimes. Many schools, colleges, universities, and employers may accept documentation from an ADHD assessment when considering accommodations. However, requirements can vary by institution and situation.

Before scheduling an assessment, we encourage you to check with your school, workplace, testing agency, or accommodation office to understand their specific documentation requirements. Some organizations may require additional information or a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation to determine eligibility for accommodations.

ADHD assessments often involve extended clinical time outside of the therapy session itself, including scoring, interpretation, record review, and clinical documentation. In many cases, insurance reimbursement does not adequately cover the full assessment process. Offering this as a self-pay service allows us to provide a more comprehensive and individualized evaluation experience.
Yes. Anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, sleep concerns, and other mental health conditions can sometimes mimic or overlap with ADHD symptoms. Part of the assessment process includes exploring these concerns to better understand the full clinical picture.
You may benefit from an ADHD screening if you struggle with focus, organization, motivation, impulsivity, emotional regulation, procrastination, chronic overwhelm, or executive functioning difficulties that interfere with daily life, work, school, or relationships.
Yes. During the assessment process, we explore symptoms related to attention, executive functioning, anxiety, depression, stress, and emotional regulation. Some clients may meet criteria for ADHD, while others may receive a different diagnosis or clinical recommendation depending on their symptoms and history.
ADHD in adults can present differently than many people expect. Symptoms may include chronic overwhelm, procrastination, forgetfulness, difficulty starting or finishing tasks, emotional dysregulation, burnout, distractibility, restlessness, time management difficulties, or feeling mentally “on” all the time.
