DO I NEED THERAPY?
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?
The hardest part is over—you took the brave step of calling and scheduling your first appointment. Now, the first session begins.
You don’t need to prepare anything ahead of time. Just come as you are and be as open and honest as you feel comfortable. We know starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially that first session. That’s completely normal.
During this initial appointment, your therapist will spend time getting to know you—your reasons for coming to counseling, your background and history, what symptoms you may be experiencing, and what goals you hope to work toward. This session is all about gathering information so we can understand how to best support you.
Appointments typically last about an hour. After this first meeting, your therapist will begin tailoring future sessions to meet your unique needs and goals.

If you don’t see your insurance listed, you still have some options. You may pay with cash, check, credit card, or with your health savings account. Some insurance companies will even accept a receipt (superbill) showing that you have paid for services and will then reimburse you directly.
DO I HAVE TO USE MY INSURANCE?
DO YOU PROVIDE ESTIMATES FOR SERVICES?
Absolutely! Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

IS WHAT I SHARE WITH MY THERAPIST CONFIDENTIAL?
Yes, for the most part, your information is kept private. We cannot share any details with your spouse, partner, parent, or child unless you provide written consent. However, there are a few exceptions where we are required by law to act in order to keep you and others safe, including:
- Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elderly person, or disabled person
- If we believe you’re in danger of harming yourself or someone else
- If you report an intent to physically harm someone, we must inform that person and legal authorities
